We are very lucky at St. Andrew’s, we get to learn in the forest at Wiggery Wood.
Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1
Bulmer was one of the first Forest Schools in Essex. Every other Monday morning our children wrap up warm, put on their waterproofs and wellies and head off to spend the morning working in ‘Wiggery Wood.’ The wood belongs to Mr Cooper (formerly one of our school governors) and is located close to school. They are able to experience a range of activities related to the curriculum, but outdoors!
Key Stage 2 at Wiggery Wood
Forest School doesn’t end at the end of Key Stage 1. Our Key Stage 2 children continue to enjoy learning in Wiggery Wood. Some of the activities have included setting a trail, lighting a fire, building dens, making rope ladders, learning about knots and cooking over the fire.
Baker’s Field is our environmental field located opposite our school site. It is an area designed by pupils back in 2000 when our school took over what was an empty field. Following the children’s plan and with the kind help of volunteers the field was planted to include:
Orchard with local varieties of apple trees
Managed and natural regeneration areas
The area is still developing to this day.
