Music

Children in all classes are taught by a music specialist. During Key Stage 1 children learn about the elements of music through a range of listening, performing and composing activities. The children learn to sing with expression and also play a range of tuned and untuned percussion instruments. During Key Stage 2 the children learn in more depth about Western Music history, as well as discovering various types of world music.

In addition to general class music lessons, Early Years children tap out rhythms on percussion instruments while all KS1 learn to play the recorder. Year 3 and 4 children continue to develop playing the recorder whilst reading music.   Year 5 and 6 build on their music reading skills as well as having the opportunity to learn the  flute or the clarinet – being  more challenging instruments.
